Our Impact
Our impact isn't about the profit we make – it's about the difference we make to the environment and to communities across the UK.
Since 1981 we've lent to over 2,000 projects, supporting individuals, co-operatives, charities and ecological businesses to realise their ecological ambitions.
In 2010 we lent £14.5 million gross (£10 million net) to support environmentally positive projects, as well as giving our first Charitable Foundation grants to projects that enhance the built environment for community benefit.

Ten years ago I bought a dilapidated, ex-multi-occupied house. With an Ecology mortgage, a green architect and a modest but inspired builder, it was completely refurbished and has been a warm and happy home for my family. There's still more to do to make it even more energy-efficient, but that will be based on a solid foundation. Needless to say, no other building society would have offered me a mortgage on such a house.
You deal with people not money!
Thanks Ecology – you were the only organisation who could make our non-conventional building renovation possible.
We feel proud to be members of Ecology Building Society – when so much that goes on now seems cynical and media-orientated, it's good to think that business can still remember principles as well as profits.
Without a mortgage from you, we would have been unable to realise our dream of turning a derelict cottage into a comfortable family home.
