Lydden Meadow: sustainable shared ownership
Lydden Meadow is a development of ten high quality, energy efficient homes in Buckland Newton, a village in West Dorset. It is set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and is sympathetic and in keeping with the locality.
Buckland Newton Community Property Trust developed the site to provide affordable housing, primarily for people with close connections to the village, through family, residency or work. The development comprises ten affordable ecologically designed homes, five to rent out at affordable rents and five available to buy under shared ownership terms.
Ecology provided advice to the Trust on the development of suitable shared ownership arrangements for the project and created a bespoke shared ownership mortgage package for buyers.
Lydden Meadow is now fully occupied, with 5 rented properties and 5 shared ownership properties, all of which have achieved Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 accreditation – meaning that the owners will also benefit from our C-Change sustainable homes discount.
We identified Ecology as being very supportive of affordable housing model. The bespoke shared ownership mortgage which they arranged for our project has been an essential part of the success of Lydden Meadow.
