Graham’s story: a Passivhaus project
Graham, a property developer, wanted to build a two bedroom, low energy home in Fife to Passivhaus standards. Passivhaus is a standard for buildings that reduces the need for heating and cooling, while improving interior comfort, through airtightness, insulation and mechanical ventilation.
Ecology provided mortgage finance for the project through our small scale development package, enabling the works to be carried out via staged payments as the project progressed.
The property is now complete and is a Certified Quality Approved Passive House, featuring super insulation and triple glazed windows and doors. As well as offering a high level of air quality, the house is 25 times more airtight than required by building regulations! The design of the house means that it doesn’t need a central heating system and its utility bills are predicted to be very low

I was attracted to Ecology because of their niche position in the market. They understand the principles of building to the Passivhaus standard and the fact that they have an incentive to do so built into their mortgage discounts was very attractive. Their friendly and personal approach to working with us is very much in keeping with our own way of working.
