Rob and Jessica’s story: from derelict stables to family home

Rob and Jessica outside the stable blockRob, a chartered structural engineer, and Jessica, a probation officer, wanted to convert a derelict stable block into a family home for themselves and their first child. They needed to rebuild the stable block and make it habitable in time for their new arrival!

The project included installing an A rated boiler, insulation to the roof, double glazed windows and wet underfloor heating.

Ecology provided a residential self-build mortgage to support the project, with staged payments to enable the works to be carried out.

Rob and Jessica are now settled into their new home and enjoying their new family.

Ecology Building Society managed to make it easy, from the forms you fill in to the final decision. We found Ecology’s approach simple to understand, down to earth and flexible. That was crucial for us – after all, we’re first time self-builders as well as first time parents!
