Chris and Lorna’s story: a live-work renovation

Chris and Lorna wanted to convert various agricultural outbuildings, including milking sheds, into new homes for themselves, their children and their parents, as well as creating B&B holiday accommodation. The redevelopment also included office accommodation for Chris's legal practice.

Ecology helped Chris and Lorna realise their dream by providing a mortgage to support the transformation of redundant outbuildings in a sustainable way. The initial funding was interest only, to enable Chris and Lorna to carry out the works.

Chris and Lorna are now living in their newly converted home. Works have included reuse of stone, FSC certified timber, high levels of insulation, natural materials and triple glazed windows and doors.

Something like this needs imagination. It’s a long way from what the high street lenders can understand. But it was a perfect fit for Ecology Building Society.
