Complaints
We aim to provide a high standard of service to all our customers. However, occasionally things can go wrong. When this happens, we want to put matters right as quickly as possible. If you have a complaint about any aspect of the service you have received, please contact us straightaway.
Copies of the Society's Internal Complaints Handling Procedures are available on request via info@ecology.co.uk, by telephoning 0845 674 5566 or by post to Ecology Building Society, 7 Belton Road, Silsden, Keighley BD20 0EE.
We are members of the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS). Complaints which are not resolved under our Internal Complaints Handling Procedures can be referred to the Financial Ombudsman Service, South Quay Plaza, 183 Marsh Wall, London E14 9SR.
The Banking Code
The Banking Code is a voluntary code that sets standards of good banking practice for financial institutions to follow when they are dealing with personal customers in the United Kingdom. We subscribe to the Banking Code, copies of which are available on request form the Society via info@ecology.co.uk or by telephoning us on 0845 674 5566.
Central cheque clearing cycle
The central clearing cycle for cheques and automated payments is normally three working days, however as the Society is not a clearing bank your cheque will take 10 calendar days to clear (including bank holidays).
Although you are normally able to withdraw against a cheque paid into your account 10 days after the day we received it, this does not always mean that the cheque has been "cleared". If the cheque is not "cleared", you will have to repay us the amount of the withdrawal.
Financial Services Compensation Scheme
Ecology Building Society participates in the Financial Services Compensation Scheme established under the Financial Services and Markets Act 2000. Payments under the Scheme are limited to a maximum of 100% of the first £35,000 of an investor's total shares and/or deposits (other than deferred shares). Most investors are covered, including individuals and small firms. Although most shares and deposits in UK building societies are denominated in sterling, the euro and other European Economic Area currencies are also covered. Further details are available from the Society.
