Strong growth for green building society

Monday 12 August 2002

Ecology Building Society, the specialist green savings and mortgage provider, has announced continued strong and profitable growth in its results for the first half of 2002.

During the first six months of the year assets grew by 6.43% to £42,249,813. Over the same period the Societys net profit was £124,543, an increase of 28% compared with the same period in 2001.

Demand for Ecology's environmentally conscious mortgages continued unabated, with total advances of £4.3 million for the period. True to its principles, every Ecology mortgage had some environmental feature or payback, whether it be renovating derelict and run down property or using sustainable materials and energy saving technology to self build new homes.

Commenting on the half year results, Chief Executive Paul Ellis said:

"We are delighted with the performance. The figures reflect a growing appetite amongst many consumers for financial products which combine value for money with the feeling that they are doing something positive to help the environment."
