Monday 11 October 2004
Ecology Building Society has backed Silsden Youth Councils' "Rocks and Ramps" project. The Silsden based specialist in green mortgages, has donated £250 towards the project, which plans to develop an area of Silsden Park for skateboard and bike enthusiasts.
"Rocks and Ramps" is the first project undertaken by the enterprising Youth Council, which was formed in May 2003. It aims to provide much needed sporting facilities, cut down on nuisance crime and provide a focus for community development. Boosted by the Society's contribution, the total amount raised by the Youth Council has now risen to over £46,000. Well on the way to their target of £56,870.
Three members of the Youth Council recently visited Ecology Building Society's new Eco HQ with Councillor Pat Bottomley. Youth Council Chair Ashley Roberts, Vice Chair Matthew Thornton and Committee member George Barclay were treated to a guided tour of the "low impact" building, before being presented with a cheque by Paul Ellis, Chief Executive of Ecology Building Society.
Paul Ellis said, "Hats off to the Youth Council and to supporters such as Pat Bottomley. It's great to find a group of young people so public spirited and determined to make things happen. Hopefully Rocks and Ramps is the first of many successes for Silsden Youth Council"
