Building Society's Head Office scoops prestigious Building Award
Ecology Building Society is thrilled to announce that their Head Office has just won the Sustainable Building of the Year category for small projects, part of Building magazine's Sustainability Awards. The Ecology's Head Office in Silsden, West Yorkshire is an extremely eco-friendly building incorporating reclaimed and sustainable materials, high levels of insulation, renewable energy and rainwater recycling. The first phase of the new Head Office was completed two years ago and is a showcase for the Ecology's commitment to sustainable building. A groundbreaking straw bale meeting room has been added during 2005.
The glitzy award ceremony, attended by over 700 members of the building industry, took place at the London Hilton hotel on Tuesday 2 November and was hosted by former Conservative Party MP Michael Portillo. There were 13 categories in total rewarding companies who have excelled in achieving sustainable best practice in areas such as housebuilding, innovation and waste management. Ecology Building Society Director, Pam Parkinson, was on hand to collect the award on behalf of the Ecology. Pam is an architect by profession and helped to design the Ecology's revolutionary Head Office. The inaugural award scheme was launched to recognise and reward UK businesses at the forefront of sustainability best practice.
The Society's Chief Executive Paul Ellis is delighted by the Ecology's success. "This award is further recognition of the part that the Ecology is playing in pushing forward the agenda on sustainable building. More important than the award however, is the need for all businesses to adopt the best in sustainable business practice, and thereby help to combat the effects of climate change."
