Lending for derelict and empty properties is at the heart of Ecology's work – it's the reason we were founded over 30 years ago. We see bringing empty homes back into use as a form of recycling that can help to relieve the shortage of affordable, sustainable homes.

Because our lending decisions are based on environmental and social considerations, we can often consider projects that other lenders may reject. Our individual approach and specialist experience means you get friendly, knowledgeable service from our dedicated mortgage team. And our C-Change discounts can reward you improving the energy efficiency of your property!

Looking for the National Empty Homes Loans scheme?

In 2013, the charity Empty Homes partnered with Ecology to launch the pilot National Empty Homes Loans (NEHLF) scheme. The scheme, delivered in conjunction with Local Authorities across England, aimed to provide loans of up to £15,000 to owners of empty properties to help bring them back into affordable use.

The Empty Homes Agency has taken the decision to close the scheme and is not accepting new applications. If you are an existing applicant, they should have written to you to advise you of the situation. If you would like further information, please contact the Empty Homes Agency loans manager David Stott at [email protected] or 07432 552 115.
