Our first-ever branch is now open, bringing essential financial services and community support back to the high street.
Ecology opened the doors to its new branch in Hannah Street, Porth, South Wales, on Monday, 20 April, and the team has been welcoming new customers and getting to know the local community.
We want to provide building society services that are personal, practical and supportive, in under-served communities which have been deserted by the big banks.
Bucking the trend of closures by other providers, we want to bring back the security, stability and community connections that branches offer.
Our branch team offers help and support to local residents looking for savings products and mortgages.
Innovative kiosks offer free cash withdrawals and deposits for people, whether or not they are already an Ecology Member. We expect this to be a popular service for local businesses and residents.
And the bright, refurbished building includes space for community groups to use, to come together for activities that strengthen local connections and wellbeing.
The renovation of an empty shop was possible thanks to a partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, supported by a grant from the UK Government’s Shared Prosperity Fund.
