We only lend on properties and projects that respect the environment, and we believe in treating our borrowers individually and fairly.
No matter if your project is straightforward or unusual, innovative or one that other lenders have rejected – if we can see an environmental benefit, we'll be interested in talking to you.
And through our straightforward approach, low fees, mortgage discounts and flexible features, you'll find that a sustainable mortgage doesn't have to cost the earth.
Updates on Ecology mortgages – self-build and conversions
We are experiencing very high levels of demand for our self-build and custom-build mortgages, so we are currently focussing on projects aiming for Passivhaus, AECB Silver, EPC A+ and Code for Sustainable Homes levels 5 and 6 – as these bring the greatest gains in terms of carbon reductions. Please bear this in mind when you read our mortgage discounts page. If your project meets these criteria, we would be pleased to hear from you.
We are also not currently accepting conversion proposals, where dwellings are being created from non-domestic buildings such as barns.
At the present time we are only considering applications from customers approaching us direct – that is, not as introductions from third-parties.
If you consider that your project is of particular ecological merit yet would be excluded by the above, we would be pleased to receive details.
Our standard of service
The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has laid down detailed rules about the service we must offer on regulated residential mortgages. Under these rules, we will provide you with advice and recommendation on which of the Society's products is most suitable for you, based on your needs, preferences and affordability. Where a mortgage is not regulated by the FCA (as shown on the 'Key features' tab), you will be provided with full information about the mortgage products available from the Society so that you can make an informed decision as to which is suitable for your requirements.
