LED lights deliver big savings for Ecology

12 October 2016

As part of our continued commitment to reduce our carbon emissions we have now completed replacing all of our lighting with modern energy efficient LED lighting in our Silsden offices.

When the building was constructed in 2004, the lighting installed was the most efficient available at the time and included fluorescent and halogen lights.

Since then LED lighting has become widely available with improved reliability so, following a review of our energy usage and an assessment of the energy and cost savings, the decision was taken to invest in replacing our lighting. The time taken for this investment to pay back is expected to be just over five years without even accounting for the further savings which are expected by not replacing the bulbs as often – our LED lighting should last for between 20,000 and 50,000 hours, whereas the best fluorescent light bulbs will only last up to 10,000 hours.

Our conversion to LED lighting is already delivering a reduction of more than 4000 watts of energy every hour and this probably represents the biggest single reduction of our energy consumption we have made to date.
